Unified Notification Coverage and Integration with Existing Infrastructure

Gateway Technical College, a 25,000‑student urban institution with three major campuses and three satellite centers across three counties, needed a unified mass‑notification system that would connect its dispersed sites, integrate with its existing e2campus SMS service, and work cost‑effectively in buildings dating back to the 1950s. The college selected Alertus Technologies, implementing the Alertus system and Alert Beacon® devices to provide a single, integrated notification platform.

Alertus Technologies deployed web‑accessible Alertus software and Alert Beacon® units tied into e2campus, campus sirens, and the National Weather Service so alerts (including automatic tornado warnings) can be triggered simultaneously from multiple locations or a mobile phone and targeted by campus/zip code. The solution enabled much faster, unified alerts, helped fill the SMS coverage gap (about 2,000 of 25,000 students—just under 10%—were opted in), reduced liability exposure, and improved overall campus safety, with plans to expand coverage using additional Alertus peripherals and LED marquees.
