The Need for Expanding Emergency Coverage

Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, a 312,000 sq. ft., multi-level athletic complex with pools, courts and training facilities, faced a major challenge getting emergency communications to staff and visitors spread across multiple floors and entrances. With only a building fire alarm system previously, the Centre sought an expanded solution and selected Alertus Technologies’ Alertus Emergency Mass Notification System to add automated, facility-wide messaging.

Alertus Technologies integrated its Emergency Mass Notification System with the facility’s fire alarm control panel and used Digital Signage Override and text-to-speech to automatically push Stage 1 and Stage 2 alerts to all addressable screens and broadcast intelligible voice messages. The result is instant, facility-wide visual and verbal alerts (delivered in seconds) that improve situational awareness, help reach patrons with auditory impairments, and allow automated messaging for events from missing children to severe weather and active-shooter incidents; the system is regularly tested during drills and has meaningfully expanded the Centre’s emergency communication coverage.
