Relaying Clear Messaging to A Non-Residential Campus During Emergencies

Mesa Community College, a large non‑residential campus in Mesa, AZ (140 acres, 50 buildings, ~25,960 students), faced gaps in emergency notification after two armed intruder incidents. Public safety needed a reliable way to quickly alert thousands of students, staff and visitors across a dispersed, urban campus; existing VoIP phones covered only small areas. Mesa Community College turned to Alertus Technologies for a more robust, redundant notification solution.

Alertus Technologies implemented its Alertus system—integrating Alert Beacons, VoIP notifications, digital signage override and campus TV alerts—to extend coverage into large meeting rooms, gyms, the library and other hard‑to‑reach areas. The deployment now pushes scrolling alerts to roughly 25–30 TVs (with more being added), uses strobes and LCD text to reach disabled and hard‑of‑hearing individuals, can be operated and taught in 5–10 minutes, and enables public safety to notify the entire campus within minutes, significantly increasing coverage and campus safety at a modest cost.
