Enhancing Emergency Communications to Support Campus Safety

Northampton Community College, a community college in Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania, wanted to improve emergency communications to support campus safety. After learning grant funding was available for emergency notification, the college issued a public bid for a mass notification system and selected Alertus Technologies based on cost and functionality.

Alertus Technologies implemented a unified mass notification system that included more than 300 Alert Beacons in classrooms and common areas, Desktop Notification on all campus computers, and a panic button in the main Bethlehem Township public safety office. The system was also integrated with Omnilert to support alerts through email, SMS text messages, web-based messages, social media, the Alertus Server, and desktop and beacon notifications. Northampton Community College said the system has provided another option for reaching the campus community and has been used for public safety, urgent severe weather situations, non-emergency alerts, and annual testing.
