Barry University, a private campus in Miami Shores, FL with 7,000+ students on a 129‑acre main campus, faced a potential active‑shooter scare in November 2022 when popping noises were reported as gunfire and triggered a campus lockdown. After discovering their previous mass‑notification systems were unreliable, Barry University chose Alertus Technologies and its emergency communication solutions — including the Alertus High Power Speaker Array (HPSA), Text‑to‑Speech interface, USB panic buttons and hardwired panic buttons — to improve campus safety and integration with existing systems.
