The University of Puget Sound, a private liberal arts college in Tacoma, Washington, needed to simplify its mass notification process. In 2023, its security team was using several multi-step systems that had been in place for about five years, even as vendor support declined. The university selected Alertus Technologies to help unify campus emergency communications.

Alertus Technologies implemented a customized mass notification system that included the IP Text-to-Speech Interface, integration with Simplex Fire Control Units, an Alert Beacon, a hardwired duress button, and Alertus Desktop across campus computers. The new setup gave the university a one-step alerting process for predefined messages such as active shooter, shelter-in-place, and natural disaster notifications, and it is being expanded with 40 IP Speakers and 26 additional IP TTS Speakers. Francisco Chavez said Alertus is simple to work with, easy for security teams to use, and offers a strong cost of ownership with room for future upgrades.
