How Valley View Hospital Learns From Disasters

Valley View Hospital, located in a remote Colorado mountain town with only one major highway in and out of the valley, faces recurring risks from mudslides, wildfires, and severe winter weather. Those conditions can close access to the hospital for hours or weeks, making it difficult to protect patients and more than 1,200 employees in an environment where emergency communication has to happen quickly.

To manage those events, Valley View Hospital uses AlertMedia for employee communication and mass notification. The hospital says AlertMedia helped it mobilize staff during COVID-19 and during a mudslide that closed westbound I-70, allowing leaders to quickly determine which employees had a place to stay and retrofit parts of the hospital for staff and families who could not get home. Valley View also reported that communication issues are appearing less often in its after-action reports.
