Birmingham Airport Achieves Certification For Best Practice H&S Management Framework

Birmingham Airport (BHX) sought to formally demonstrate its commitment to managing health and safety risks across its diverse and potentially hazardous operations, which include everything from aircraft turn-around to passenger safety. The airport partnered with the vendor Alcumus and its Alcumus ISOQAR service to achieve certification to the BS OHSAS 18001 standard, an internationally recognized framework for occupational health and safety management.

Alcumus provided a rigorous assessment and audit process, completed within an eight-month timeframe, to award the certification. This external verification from a UKAS-accredited body allows BHX to confidently showcase its robust safety management to stakeholders. The solution is expected to result in a reduction of accidents, improved risk reporting, minimized legal risks, and an enhanced reputation for the airport as a responsible employer and service provider.
