NHS Fife - Customer Case Study

NHS Fife, a territorial NHS Board in Scotland, faced challenges in proactively managing deteriorating patients due to its manual, paper-based observation system. This process was prone to inaccuracies in calculating Early Warning Scores and made it difficult to quickly identify and respond to at-risk patients. To address this, NHS Fife turned to vendor Alcidion and implemented its Patientrack solution (now known as Miya Observations and Miya Assessments) to digitize the process and improve patient safety.

Alcidion's solution provided digital "track and trigger" functionality across acute wards, enabling the accurate capture of observations and automated alerts based on local protocols. The implementation led to a dramatic 76% reduction in cardiac arrests and facilitated the documentation of over 34 million risk assessments. The platform also supported new tools for malnutrition screening, delirium and frailty assessments, and peripheral venous catheter management, which significantly improved compliance and helped reduce hospital-acquired infections.
