To address this complex issue involving patient flow across the entire healthcare system, the Trust partnered with vendor Alcidion, leveraging their Patient Flow solution (formerly known as ExtraMed) to gain real-time visibility and control.

The solution implemented by Alcidion centered on a new data-driven Operations Centre and integrated digital whiteboards across all wards. This provided real-time information on bed status, patient location, and discharge readiness, enabling proactive management. The Trust also re-engineered its processes with specialized patient streams and a 24/7 senior clinical presence. As a result, the Trust consistently exceeded the 4-hour target by 2-4% and, supported by Alcidion's technology, achieved an estimated £4.3 million in annual savings from a reduced patient length of stay.
