HBF Health Ltd., a Perth‑based, member‑owned not‑for‑profit health insurer with over one million members, faced a massive cloud migration to consolidate decades of on‑premises data into a single analytics ecosystem. The organisation needed consistent definitions, stronger data governance and lineage, and better controls to protect members’ personal information while expanding access to data across the business.

Working with Deloitte, HBF deployed Alation as its data intelligence and catalogue layer to index BI reports, capture metadata, publish a data glossary, apply Trust Marks and trace lineage back to sources. The platform improved data literacy and consistency, boosted trust in reporting, reduced risk by making personal‑data flows visible, and enabled safer data democratisation so HBF can make more confident, insight‑driven decisions for members.
