Unlocking 20 Years of Structural Capacity for Shell Opertated Asset in the North Sea

Shell, a major energy company, faced the challenge of safely extending the operational life of its aging fixed platform in the North Sea. Their goal was to continue operating the 50-year-old asset beyond its original design life in a sustainable way. To address this, they worked with the vendor Akselos.

Akselos implemented its Integra solution to create a highly detailed digital twin of the platform. This advanced physics-based model provided an unprecedented level of insight into the structure’s integrity, eliminating previous engineering conservatism. The results enabled Shell to confidently unlock 20 years of additional structural capacity, safely extending the platform’s operations beyond 2035 and allowing for optimized maintenance and reduced downtime.
