Extending Offshore Asset Life with Akselos Digital Guardian

The large production facility company, an operator of a mature platform-complex in the North Sea, faced the challenge of extending the operational life of its assets beyond their original 40-year design. With increasing operational costs and stringent regulatory standards, the company needed a solid engineering basis to justify a minimum 20-year extension and optimize its inspection and maintenance budget. To address this, they partnered with vendor Akselos.

Akselos implemented its Akselos Integra platform to create a high-resolution, physics-based digital twin of the offshore structure. This solution provided an unprecedented understanding of the asset's true structural integrity, unlocking over 15 years of additional life. For the customer, this translated into an estimated NPV improvement of $50-100 million and potential OPEX savings of $5-20 million from a more targeted inspection regime. Akselos's technology also formed the basis for successful engagement with regulators to approve the asset life extension.
