World Wildlife Fund's WWF Together app hits 1M downloads with AKQA

The World Wildlife Fund sought to advance its digital engagement to educate and entertain all generations about conservation. Partnering with vendor AKQA, the challenge was to create a future-focused digital experience that would reinvent the conversation around wildlife.

AKQA developed the innovative iPad app "WWF Together," leveraging the tablet's gestural and hardware features to create immersive animal interactions. The solution included interactive habitats, fact discovery, and a 3D globe exploring species locations. This app earned the Apple Design Award in 2013, was downloaded over 1 million times in its release year, and users spent over 60 total years exploring it, all achieved without paid media.
