A Akka Case Study
StashAway, founded in 2016 in Singapore, is a digital wealth manager for retail and accredited investors that uses its ERAA (Economic Regime–based Asset Allocation) framework to drive data-driven, risk-aware investing. Licensed across multiple markets and with over US$1 billion AUM as of January 2021, the company needed to aggregate thousands of individual trades into omnibus accounts and guarantee timely, regulator-compliant settlement with an immutable audit trail—making event sourcing essential to ensure transactional correctness and avoid regulatory penalties.
To meet that need StashAway deployed Lightbend’s Akka Platform to provide mission‑critical event sourcing across its microservices/Kubernetes stack, ensuring reliable message delivery, atomic ledger/cash updates, and full auditability. The solution enabled rapid scale—daily trades grew from 100,000 ($4M) to 200,000 (>$15M) within a year, processing millions of orders and dividends while supporting growth to over $1B AUM—delivering high reliability and operational efficiency with a relatively small engineering footprint.
