The Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) faced a significant challenge with its legacy SAS processes used to analyze state-submitted Medicaid data. These processes could only run for one state at a time, taking days to complete all 52 states, and were difficult to maintain, troubleshoot, and update. Akira Technologies was engaged to migrate these complex and esoteric jobs to a modern cloud platform.

Akira Technologies successfully migrated the critical data processes from SAS to the AWS cloud using Databricks and Python. This solution provided greater scalability, reliability, and concurrency, allowing multiple states to be processed simultaneously. The results were produced faster and without reliance on proprietary SAS constructs. Akira Technologies enabled CMCS to share information back to states in a more timely manner, allowing for quicker remediation of data submission problems.
