Montage Health, a nonprofit healthcare system in Monterey County, California, sought to further improve the efficiency of its high-performing revenue cycle team and reduce the burden on its overburdened patient access staff. Having already successfully automated back-end claim status checks with vendor AKASA, their next challenge was to automate the tedious, manual process of checking prior authorization statuses from payers to free up staff for more valuable work.

AKASA implemented its AI-powered Authorization Status Checks solution for Montage Health, automating the process of obtaining statuses from nine different payer portals and returning the information directly into the Epic EHR. This solution checked 5,663 authorizations in one year and resulted in a 22% reduction in the auth status work queue volume.
