A multinational banking corporation needed new revenue channels and better efficiency across its supply and customer networks, while also complying with international regulations like PSD2 and the UK Open Data Initiative. To avoid being disrupted, the bank decided to open its core banking applications to partners and developers to enable automation, innovation and co-creation.

The bank deployed the Akana Platform on-premise—using multi-layered networks, HSM integration and a flexible developer portal—to publish standardized, secure RESTful APIs and run a Developer Network and fintech accelerator. The solution met regulatory and security requirements, accelerated time-to-market, and already produced tangible benefits: a production API enabling real-time corporate supplier payments (replacing batch processing) that improves customer experience and processing throughput, with a public launch and broader API onboarding planned.
