Fidor Bank is a 100% online, community-focused bank launched in 2009 that serves tens of thousands of customers with innovative digital banking features. In October 2014 the bank was targeted by extortionist-driven DDoS attacks that escalated to over 85 Gbps, overwhelming firewalls and taking services offline for about eight hours—prompting a need for reliable DDoS protection, outside expertise, and proof of measures for regulators.

Fidor deployed Akamai Prolexic Routed in an Always On configuration (with Application-Based Monitoring), which stopped the subsequent 85 Gbps attack within 30 seconds and caused the attackers to cease.
