Rabobank Plows Through New Zealand Banking Market In High Speed

Rabobank, the Dutch cooperative and global leader in agricultural finance, launched the RaboPlus online bank for New Zealand but faced a key challenge: deliver a local, high-performance, secure online experience from a centralized IT centre in Amsterdam without costly local infrastructure. The bank needed short load times, uninterrupted transactions, strict security compliance, low investment and fast time-to-market to compete with local banks.

Rabobank partnered with Akamai (with integration support from Schuberg Philis) to deliver most site content via Akamai’s CDN and SureRoute technology, implemented in eight weeks. The result: a four-step transaction time cut from 14.3 to 7.3 seconds, consistently high availability, a local “feel” for NZ customers while keeping sensitive data on Rabobank’s servers, lower costs and a successful market launch.
