Preemptively blocking unauthorized DNS queries using Akamai’s vast amount of threat intelligence

Topcon Corporation, a global manufacturer of precision equipment with roughly 90% of its subsidiaries and 70% of its workforce based overseas, needed stronger, easy-to-manage defenses for highly sensitive design and operational data. Facing rapidly evolving, targeted attacks and the challenge of maintaining consistent security governance across many countries, Topcon sought a global solution that could keep pace with sophisticated threats without heavy on-premises complexity.

Topcon trialed and then adopted Akamai’s Enterprise Threat Protector (ETP), a cloud-based, DNS-driven service that required no hardware and delivered immediate visibility into internal communications and malware activity. After a successful pilot (Mar–May 2018) and full rollout in June 2018, ETP provided centralized management for 70+ sites, automatic threat updates, stronger protection against targeted attacks, and simpler global governance—helping Topcon scale secure operations during overseas expansion.
