A Akamai Technologies Case Study
Suntory System Technology Limited, the IT arm for the Japanese Suntory Group, was managing roughly 580 consumer and B2B sites while migrating to the cloud and centralizing hosting. They faced slow page loads for Japanese users accessing globally hosted sites and struggled to apply and optimize Akamai web security (WAF) and CDN settings across hundreds of sites due to limited resources and in-house expertise, which led to configuration gaps and operational incidents.
To address this, Suntory engaged Akamai’s Technical Advisory Service (TAS) for a dedicated advisor who reviewed architecture, created optimization policies, tuned cache and HTTP/2 settings, and implemented protections like SiteFailover. The TAS-driven program stabilized web security operations, reduced misconfigurations and incidents, cut page load times by about a second, and established an ongoing cycle of analysis and improvement—leaving Suntory satisfied and planning further automation and Akamai service adoption.
