KKBOX, launched in 2004, is Asia’s leading music streaming service with more than 10 million registered users and availability across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. As KKBOX expanded in Southeast Asia it faced slow download speeds and limited infrastructure capacity that threatened user satisfaction and the ability to scale for live webcasts and market growth.

KKBOX deployed Akamai’s Intelligent Platform and Media Delivery solutions to accelerate and scale media delivery. The rollout boosted overseas download speeds by 425%, supported up to 6400 Kbps streaming and 10 Gbps peak traffic, and enabled seamless live broadcasts across multiple APAC countries. Results included rapid user growth (members in Malaysia tripled in the second month), a 65% increase in Thailand streaming traffic, improved audio quality and faster launches into new markets without additional hardware investment.
