Akamai helps MSN deliver more than 65 million video streams around the world for record-breaking live earth event

MSN partnered to broadcast Live Earth, a global 24‑hour concert on July 7, 2007, but faced an unprecedented scale and the need to deliver a flawless rich‑media experience worldwide. With uncertain traffic patterns and strict audience‑satisfaction goals, MSN needed a reliable CDN partner to overcome Internet performance and reliability limits beyond its control.

Working with Akamai, MSN streamed the event successfully, delivering more than 15 million live video streams to 8 million viewers on the day with a peak of 237,000 simultaneous viewers, and making on‑demand clips available within hours. Since the launch MSN has served over 250 million page views, delivered 67 million total video streams (including 52 million VOD), and received strong visitor feedback, meeting its engagement and delivery objectives.
