Stanford SSI pushes the space tech envelope with Aiven InfluxDB

Stanford SSI, Stanford’s largest project-based student group working on high-altitude balloons and rockets, needed a database to handle aerospace telemetry and a new high-bandwidth communications system for their record-breaking ValBal platform. After selecting open-source InfluxDB but struggling to provision it, they turned to Aiven for a reliable, easy-to-use hosted InfluxDB service.

Aiven provisioned InfluxDB in minutes, enabling Stanford SSI to stream over 1 GB of telemetry from ValBal at more than 200 km away at the edge of space. By using Aiven’s managed InfluxDB, Stanford SSI established a stable, high-bandwidth data pipeline that simplified operations and accelerated further development of their balloon program.
