A Aiven Case Study
Spare, a Vancouver-based microtransit platform founded in 2015, needed a more reliable relational data system to handle real-time requests and scale city-wide services. After unacceptable downtime with GCP Cloud SQL, Spare moved to PostgreSQL and Redis and selected Aiven—specifically Aiven for PostgreSQL—to get the fault tolerance, point-in-time recovery, and maintenance control their service required.
Aiven implemented managed PostgreSQL (and Redis) with PITR, scheduled maintenance control, built-in metrics, and flexible deployment options, delivering instant improvements in reliability and performance. The switch to Aiven cut maintenance-related downtime, made scaling and monitoring simple, and saved Spare the equivalent cost of two engineers, allowing the team to focus on their app and rapidly deploy city transport systems.
