Comcast sought to build its Xfinity Home Digital Home Ecosystem to connect and manage tens of millions of customers and hundreds of millions of IoT devices, which created huge scale, durability and low-latency requirements across diverse devices and networks. To avoid diverting engineering resources to manage infrastructure, Comcast evaluated managed offerings and selected Aiven, using Aiven for Kafka (with Aiven’s metrics integration) to support its high-performance messaging backbone.
Aiven implemented a managed Kafka solution that delivered the required scalability, throughput and durability while meeting Comcast’s strict latency target — performant 98% of the time under 50 ms end-to-end — and outperformed competing options on cost, support and performance. By using Aiven for Kafka, Comcast achieved a robust, highly available production messaging platform that reduced operational overhead and supported critical Xfinity Home workflows.
