Loughborough University’s School of the Arts needed a better way to account for and charge students for materials and services. Its existing smart card system was time-consuming to administer, relied on non-real-time data pulled from terminals, and required separate cards instead of using the university ID card. Vendor AIT was brought in to help modernize the process, using XPR Enterprise POS for Pcounter.

AIT implemented a server-based Pcounter Pro and XPR Enterprise POS solution linked to the university’s Active Directory and student ID cards, with real-time transaction updates and a value loader for student top-ups. The installation was completed in less than two days, reduced finance administration, eliminated the need for separate smart cards, and improved reporting and accountability. The university also found the system easy to use, and AIT noted that the solution could be expanded to support other departmental needs without extra optional costs.
