How Bowtie Uses Virtual Corporate Cards to Streamline Its Operations in Hong Kong

Bowtie, Hong Kong’s first virtual insurer, needed a better way to handle international business spending and employee purchases. As the company grew, it was dealing with overseas supplier payments, USD-billed SaaS subscriptions, and an inefficient reimbursement process that created extra paperwork and bank fees. Airwallex’s virtual corporate cards and employee cards were used to address these challenges.

With Airwallex, Bowtie could pay foreign expenses directly in multiple currencies, avoid international transaction and TT fees, and access competitive FX rates through a 24/7 web portal. Airwallex also enabled Bowtie to issue virtual Visa cards instantly to employees, set spending limits, and track expenses in real time. Bowtie said it saved around 3–5% on foreign currency payments, equivalent to about HK$3,000–HK$5,000 for every HK$100,000 spent overseas.
