Case Study: ScholarMatch achieves scalable, centralized donor and student management with Airtable

A Airtable Case Study

Preview of the ScholarMatch Case Study

How ScholarMatch made Airtable work for them, part one

ScholarMatch is a San Francisco–based nonprofit that crowdfunds college scholarships and provides college counseling for underserved students. As the organization grew from an early cohort of 39 students into a program serving over 600 students per year, it needed an affordable, flexible CRM to manage donors, donations, students, volunteers, program schedules and more. Lacking the budget for a custom system or outside tech consultant, ScholarMatch adopted Airtable in December 2013 to track donors and donations and to build a single, adaptable organizational database.

Using Airtable, ScholarMatch created a comprehensive, linked database that integrates with Stripe and uses formulas, linked-record fields, lookups and rollups to automate donation codes, populate donor addresses for thank-you letters, and sum lifetime contributions. Airtable centralized disparate data into one “home” for organizational information, enabled real-time updates across tables, streamlined reporting for grants, and supported the nonprofit’s expansion—helping ScholarMatch scale services without the cost of a custom CRM.
