US Open Provides a Personalized Mobile Concierge

The US Open, hosted by the USTA at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, draws over half a million fans each year and uses its mobile app to keep attendees connected to news, scores and match streams. The USTA wanted to test new app capabilities to deliver a more personalized, on-site mobile experience for fans and sponsors.

Using Airship’s mobile messaging and Gimbal proximity beacons, the tournament delivered beacon-triggered push notifications, a Message Center “day guide,” personalized in-app messages, live streams and partner promotions. Highly targeted, location- and behavior-driven alerts drove strong engagement — a 32% click-through rate on last-minute ticket offers and a 53% open rate for live-stream notifications — while increasing in-app activity and sponsor visibility.
