POLITICO Europe, the EU-focused edition of POLITICO, needed a way to reach new readers and deliver timely Brexit coverage on mobile without building an app. Facing tight timelines for the referendum, they sought app-like engagement and real-time updates on polls and voting results.
Working with DigitasLBi and using Urban Airship Reach, POLITICO launched an interactive Apple Wallet EU Referendum Tracker in under three weeks, sending lockscreen alerts and dynamically updating passes with live polling and vote tallies. The campaign added 10,000 passes in seven days, kept 81% of passes addressable one week after the vote, converted 74% of pass registrants into new database users, and helped drive a 300% boost in traffic in June.
