How Ulta Beauty Doubled Conversion Rates with Hyper-Personalized Retargeting

Ulta Beauty, the largest specialty U.S. beauty retailer, wanted a better way to capture shopper preferences and use them for retargeting, but limited survey capabilities made it hard to collect the right data and deliver value at the right moment. Working with Airship, the team used a no-code in-app Scene to ask customers about their eye color and gather insights for personalized follow-up.

Airship enabled Ulta Beauty to build and launch the survey without developer support, tag customer profiles, and later send tailored recommendations through push notifications and Message Center. The campaign gathered over 825K preferences, achieved a 7% response rate, and drove 2.8x higher purchase conversion rates among those exposed to the in-app Scene, with push notifications performing 2.48x above Ulta Beauty’s average conversion rate.
