COPA América, the world’s oldest international continental football competition, needed a way to keep fans connected to live scores, news and team-specific updates during the Centenario tournament held across 10 U.S. cities in 2016. The challenge was delivering timely, personalized coverage in multiple languages and engaging fans who couldn’t watch matches live, while also offering sponsors interactive opportunities.

COPA América partnered with Punchkick for app design and Urban Airship Engage for segmented push messaging, letting users pick favorite teams and receive localized alerts, video, news and sponsor calls-to-action (like “Man of the Match” voting). The app drove 650k+ installs, an 86% push opt-in rate, a 32.2% influenced open rate for the finale vote, near‑one‑minute average session time, and strong engagement across iOS and Android.
