Case Study: Penn State gains visitor and event impact insights with AirSage

A AirSage Case Study

Preview of the Penn State Case Study

Visit Penn State used AirSage’s Tourism application to study the impact of college football within their region

Penn State’s Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Penn State) wanted clearer insight into visitation trends and how major events, especially college football games, affect Centre County. To answer these questions, they turned to AirSage and its Travel and Tourism web-based application, including the Activity Density tool for visualizing movement patterns over time.

AirSage used its self-serve application to run an event impact study for the Penn State vs. Ohio State “Whiteout” game, defining the market, filtering out passthrough traffic, and mapping key points of interest. The study showed a major surge of visitors starting around 2 PM, record-breaking attendance at Beaver Stadium, and heavy traffic to tailgating areas and campus attractions. The analysis identified 230,064 visitors, an average device duration of 1.35 days, and helped Visit Penn State better target marketing and reduce wasted spend.
