NASA Utilizes AirSage’s Population Density Data For Drone Pre-Flight Risk Estimation

NASA worked with AirSage to support its Ground Risk Assessment Service Provider (GRASP) development effort for unmanned aircraft and urban air mobility integration. The challenge was to estimate pre-flight non-participant casualty risk for drone flights in and around densely populated urban areas, which required high-resolution, dynamic population density data.

AirSage provided its Population Density tool and data for study areas including Reno, Corpus Christi, San Francisco, and Dallas-Fort Worth. The solution helped NASA better understand hourly population movement and congregation patterns for risk estimation, though the case study does not cite a specific quantitative outcome.
