A AIR Worldwide Case Study
The City of Dallas joined the 100 Resilient Cities initiative and needed a clearer understanding of its natural disaster risks and the economic losses they could cause. To support its new Chief Resilience Officer, the city turned to AIR Worldwide for catastrophe modeling and resilience consulting, especially as flooding and severe weather were major concerns.
AIR Worldwide performed a broad risk assessment across multiple perils and found that severe thunderstorms, not flooding, were Dallas’s largest source of expected losses, with inland flood close behind. The vendor then completed targeted analyses for critical facilities such as hospitals and warehouses, showing that elevating basement mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment could cut repair and replacement costs by more than 15%. AIR Worldwide’s insights helped Dallas prioritize resilience investments, improve emergency planning, and explore future strategies such as insurance and code improvements.
