Peapod drives supply chain innovation and efficiency with AIMMS

Peapod, a Chicago-based grocery delivery service founded in 1989 and owned by Ahold Delhaize, needed to improve efficiency across its small fulfillment "warerooms" that share inventory with stores. Slotting decisions were manual and decentralized, making it hard to keep fast-moving items in warerooms, account for seasonality and product churn, and minimize time-consuming store picks.

Districon implemented Podslotter, an AIMMS-based solution that combines an easy visual planogram with automated optimization (including 40+ business rules) to determine which items belong in warerooms and at ideal grabbing heights. The tool simplified daily operations, cut new wareroom slotting from 500 to 4 hours, reduced out-of-stocks by 20%, increased wareroom picks by 6%, and improved ideal-height picks by 4.5%.
