Peapod, a popular U.S. grocery delivery service, was facing a challenge in optimizing its warehouse slotting process to improve efficiency. The company sought to minimize the time and number of picks from its parent company's stores and maximize the more efficient picks from its own attached warerooms. Their manual process was complex and could not adequately handle factors like seasonal changes. Peapod turned to vendor AIMMS for a solution.

An AIMMS-based solution called Podslotter was implemented by an AIMMS partner. This tool automated the decision-making process with a visual planogram and provided a weekly list of items to move. The results were significant, including a 20% reduction in out-of-stocks, a 6% increase in wareroom picks, and a 4.5% increase in picks from the ideal height. Most dramatically, the time to slot a new wareroom was reduced from 500 hours to just 4 hours.
