North Star Alliance reaches 280,000 people across 13 countries with AIMMS

North Star Alliance, a non-profit organization providing healthcare via mobile clinics across Africa, faced the challenge of optimally locating its clinics and determining staffing needs to serve high-risk populations like truck drivers along transport corridors. They partnered with vendor AIMMS and its partner ORTEC to address this supply chain network design problem using the AIMMS optimization platform.

The solution implemented was an application called POLARIS, built on AIMMS by ORTEC. It used data on traffic flows and border wait times to balance placing clinics for maximum access while ensuring a continuum of care. This AIMMS-powered solution enabled North Star Alliance to determine optimal clinic locations without extensive research, allowing their network to reach over 280,000 people annually across 13 countries.
