Energy Conglomerate Maximizes Operational Capacity with AIMMS-based Maintenance Scheduling Model

The International Integrated Energy and Chemical Company, a large energy and chemicals producer operating a 175 MW gas engine power plant in South Africa, needed a better maintenance scheduling and optimization solution. With only one core maintenance team and strict service intervals across 18 engines, overlapping shutdowns were limiting availability and making it difficult to increase power output and support the national grid.

AIMMS, working with ORTEC, delivered a user-friendly optimization application to plan maintenance over long-term periods and solve the complex mixed-integer scheduling problem. The AIMMS-based solution helped the company align maintenance more efficiently, improve adherence to service intervals, and raise electricity production during winter months by 4.6%, increasing operational capacity and the ability to meet demand.
