ArcelorMittal Tubarão, part of the world's leading steel and mining company, faced a challenge when planning a major production capacity expansion. They needed to determine how to optimally sell their new capabilities and select the most profitable clients, but their existing SAP APO tool could not meet these key business requirements. They turned to vendor AIMMS and its implementation partner UniSoma for a solution.
The solution was an AIMMS-based optimizer developed by UniSoma, which became the core of a new Sales and Operations Planning tool. This AIMMS model optimized the tactical and strategic supply chain plan by considering client profitability, production capabilities, and product mix. The results for ArcelorMittal Tubarão included a significant increase in profitability, better planning and purchasing decisions, and an improved ability to meet demand at the desired service level.
