AMT Leverages AIMMS for Tactical and Strategic Supply Chain Optimization

ArcelorMittal Tubarão (AMT), part of the global ArcelorMittal group, planned a $1B expansion to grow slab and coil capacity from 5 to 7.5 million tons. While using SAP APO/SNP for planning, AMT found SNP could not represent key business requirements needed to decide the optimal production mix or which customers and service levels would maximize profitability from the added capacity.

AIMMS partner UniSoma implemented an AIMMS-based optimization kernel integrated with SAP and an Oracle database to replace the native SNP engine. The solution optimizes production, distribution, strategic storage and sales to maximize customer contribution margins, supports S&OP and five-year monthly business planning, and delivered increased profitability, better planning and purchasing decisions, and improved ability to meet demand at target service levels.
