A AiDash Case Study
United Power, a utility co-op serving more than 100,000 homes and businesses across Colorado’s Northern Front Range, needed a better way to manage vegetation across 6,500 line miles of rugged terrain. Ground inspections in the Mountain District were difficult and inefficient, prior trimming records were limited, and the utility was looking for a way to improve grid resiliency, reliability, and wildfire risk mitigation. United Power turned to AiDASH and its Intelligent Vegetation Management System (IVMS).
AiDASH’s IVMS used satellite imagery and AI to identify vegetation risks, measure tree-to-line distances, model vegetation growth, and create more accurate trim cycles for United Power’s 400 miles of Mountain District lines. The solution helped prioritize cycle trims, assign tasks through a mobile app, and improve planning around weather, budget, and criticality. United Power reported that the 2022 satellite scan was especially valuable for planning 2023 trims, post-trim audits, and budget optimization, and the success led the utility to begin implementing AiDASH’s vegetation management solution in its Plains District as well.
