Netze BW realizes high accuracy with satellite and AI vegetation assessments

Netze BW GmbH, Germany’s largest grid company for electricity, gas, and water in Baden-Württemberg, wanted to determine whether satellite and AI-based vegetation analysis could improve service reliability across its extensive network. To test this, it worked with AiDash and its Intelligent Vegetation Management System (IVMS) to assess vegetation hazards along medium-voltage overhead power lines and evaluate the best remote sensing approach for identifying encroachment risks.

AiDash configured IVMS to analyze vegetation type, growth, clearance to conductors, and hazard-tree risk across 790 spans, while also checking GIS alignment and making shapefile corrections. Within three weeks, AiDash identified 153 spans with high grow-in risk, 131 spans with high pole risk, 24 spans at high danger-tree risk, and 86 spans at medium danger-tree risk, giving Netze BW actionable insight to prioritize targeted vegetation removal and reduce outage risk.
