North York General Hospital - Customer Case Study

North York General Hospital needed an infant protection system to support the safety of babies from birth until discharge, while also reducing the time nurses spent managing security tasks. In October 2008, the hospital issued an RFP for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of a system for the birth of approximately 5,800 babies per year.

Ahearn & Soper Inc. provided the Cuddles Infant Protection System, which combines a soft RFID bracelet with monitoring of all areas and exits to help prevent infant removal from the unit. Nurse training took only 30 minutes, and the system went live on May 4 after installation began in April. Lois MacInnis, the Post-Partum Unit Manager, said Cuddles is kind to infants and does not require nurses to compromise patient care.
