Nestle Purina, the pet-food manufacturer, needed a robust new system to label the large number of pallets shipped from its Mississauga plant and to replace its inkjet system. It also wanted a setup that could support a future interface between its warehouse management system and the label applicator, as RFID requirements approached.

Ahearn & Soper Inc. installed a Label-Aire 3138-N Dual Action Tamp Printer labeling machine and developed the software to send label data to the applicator. The system now prints expiry dates and basic production details, and it was built with the longer-term goal of tying into the production computer system while helping Nestle Purina prepare for RFID-related compliance needs.
