Furfari Paving Co Ltd, a family-owned manufacturer, supplier, and installer of Hot Mix Asphalt, needed a better way to control and understand payables to its haulage contractors. During busy paving seasons, foremen manually collected and signed hundreds of truck time slips each week, then the main office re-entered the data into a payables accounting system, creating delays, errors, and unreadable or missing records. Furfari Paving Co Ltd approached Ahearn & Soper Inc. in early 2009 for help with a payables time tracking solution.

Ahearn & Soper Inc. implemented a centralized time tracking solution across all 3 plants and 10 mobile sites using rugged Intermec mobile devices with integrated cellular radios and scanning for truck asset cards. The system let supervisors record in/out transactions in the field and sync them to a central database, while administrators could manage truck assets, update job site information, and report on completed transactions, with incomplete records flagged as exceptions.
