Baxter Corporation, which manufactures and markets healthcare products in Alliston, Ontario, approached Ahearn & Soper Inc. in 2001 to develop two online bar code label printing and verification systems. The challenge was to print, apply, and verify that the correct label was used on the correct product while also capturing label data from the AS400 manufacturing system.

Ahearn & Soper Inc. delivered a concentrate label application and a pallet label application with label applicators, scanners, a touch-screen PC, and backup printing capabilities. The systems updated the AS400 in real time, supported offline operation, and helped improve inventory accuracy, reduce costs, speed production turnaround, and maintain high quality products. Baxter said both projects were completed on time and on schedule.
