Preview of the Agro-Retailer Company Case Study

Remote sensing in South Africa helped save on nutrient management

AgroScout worked with Agro-Retailer Company in South Africa to help remotely manage growers’ nutrient applications for potato crops. The customer needed a better way to detect nutrient deficiencies early, avoid unnecessary spraying, and prevent yield loss across fields in Western Cape and Free State.

Using aerial and satellite remote sensing, AgroScout enabled a Macro-to-Micro scouting process that combined high-resolution NDVI imagery, orthophotos, and low-altitude drone flights to pinpoint nutrient issues. When problem areas were found, growers were directed to scan those locations for agronomists to review and create a targeted spraying plan. As a result, Agro-Retailer Company saved 30% of field technicians’ time, improved remote nutritional management by 33%, and helped growers reduce spraying by 8%.
